The western end of Cape Coral Parkway is going through some changes. This quiet part of town has wide canals, million dollar plus homes, and palm tree lined streets. 

At the intersection of Cape Coral Parkway and Sands Boulevard are two new model homes being built by Turn Key Homes. This company has been building homes in southwest Florida since 1972. A completed model at 722 SW 49th Ln is currently available for viewing. 

Across the street from the Turn Key models, Sunset Pointe, the new DR Horton development, is progressing nicely. Lush landscaping is evident throughout the development and around the perimeter. Several homes backing up to the centrally located pond are well underway. The 3 and 4 bedroom homes available in Sunset Pointe feature 8' sliders, 10' ceilings, tile roof, 3 car garage, and paver driveway. The neighborhood will have 58 homes when completed and underground utilities.

The sidewalk project along Sands Boulevard is nearing completion. After some delays due to trees planted in the utility easement, the sidewalks south of Cape Coral Parkway are almost continuous. Several of the large palm trees in the path of the sidewalks were moved to the medians on Sands Boulevard.

Miceli's Restaurant

The first restaurant you'll come across on the way from Cape Coral to Matlacha is Miceli's Restaurant, located at 3930 Pine Island Road. It is a waterfront restaurant which sits between the south edge of the North Spreader Waterway and Matlacha Pass. It is just past Matlacha Isles and the first boat ramp in Matlacha. 

There is a nice dining room as you walk in the front door, along with a bar. The outdoor seating area has 2 large tiki huts to protect diners from the sun and rain. Live music is provided everyday. Dockage is available for boaters to tie up and take a break.

The menu is predominantly seafood, but salads, burgers, and chicken are also available, as well as a Kid's Menu. The family run restaurant is open every day beginning at 11:00 am for lunch.

Don’t Get Stuck in the “the Box”

Buyers - avoid the hassle and uncertainty by getting your insurance booked early. Sellers - the buyer’s insurance affects you.  Make sure your Realtor is following up with the buyer to be sure they are getting their insurance early.

You may have heard of the term having a storm in the “box” when it comes to getting homeowners insurance. This term refers to when insurers stop issuing insurance when a hurricane or tropical storm is coming. The “box” referred to an area around Florida which might contain a named storm. Now what insurers typically use is official storm warnings issued by national weather services. If a county (Lee County) is under a warning for a tropical storm or hurricane, insurers will stop writing policies until the warning is lifted.

If you are in the process of buying a SW Florida home, you may find that you can’t close if you are getting a loan and your insurance is delayed. This can be very inconvenient if you have moving plans in place! 

How to avoid "the Box"

Start working with your insurance company as soon as you go under contract to buy a home. The key is to lock in your insurance early to start on your closing date. You will not need to worry about storms the week of closing. Your insurance agent will work through all the details for you. If you are caught in the box, the normal Florida home sale contracts do have provisions to extend the closing. Your Realtor can advise you about those.

Oasis High School: Top School

Did you see the news? Oasis High School is among the top schools in the nation! The Washington Post list of Most Challenging High Schools in the United States ranked Oasis High School at number 64. 

Oasis High School is one of 4 charter schools in Cape Coral, and the only charter high school in the city. The school opened its doors in 2009 and has continued to strive for excellence. The school is certified by Cambridge University to offer the AICE curriculum, which is a rigorous college-prep program.

The other charter schools in Cape Coral are Oasis Elementary and Oasis Middle, which are located next to Oasis High on Oasis Boulevard, and Christa McAuliffe Elementary which is located on SW 3rd Lane. Although the charter schools are public schools, they are in a separate system from Lee County School District and require application and acceptance.

Cape Coral is divided into 4 quadrants. Southwest Cape Coral is primarily residential with the South Spreader Waterway running along the western edge of the city from Veteran’s Memorial Parkway down to Cape Harbour. The northern edge is Embers Parkway, just north of Pine Island. The eastern edge is Santa Barbara Boulevard.

I generally ride my bicycle south of Veteran's Memorial Parkway, along the South Spreader Waterway and take lots of pictures along the way.

Although I've passed this heron many times, I had to snap a few shots the other day. 

Found another unique mailbox to add to my mailbox collection.
