Cape Coral experienced a tremendous increase in new construction in the early 2000’s until 2008 when the market downturn hit the new construction industry. Our peak years were 2005 to 2008 with more than 500 permits per month being issued. Once the market correction started, new construction permits dropped almost immediately as many new construction homes went unsold on the market. New home community construction plans were mothballed.
We have been on a healthy trend with the SW Florida MLS new home listings inventory going from 5300 to about 2000 since 2007. This reduction in available inventory has created a demand again for new home construction. New community home sales have restarted in a Cape Coral developments.

In 2017, we have about 40 builders who have built homes in Cape Coral though September and there have been 1364 permits for new construction issued.
