Winter 2014 Update for Cape Coral
The quarterly newsletter from city hall, “On The Move”, was recently mailed to all residents and businesses in Cape Coral. The front page highlights the completion of State Road 78 (Pine Island Road) widening project from Chiquita Boulevard to Burnt Store Road. This project was 25 years in the making but broke ground just over a year ago. The two lane road was widened to four lanes, which will aid in emergency evacuation should the need occur.
Other highlights include:
· Watering schedule reminder as the dry season approaches. Cape Coral has a year-round watering schedule that must be adhered to in order to preserve our limited resources. More information is available on the Cape Coral website.
· Sidewalk Grant Program. Cape Coral has received grants to install sidewalks throughout the city and has not had to allocate any tax dollars for this project. A map of the roads to receive sidewalks and the time frame for installation is in the paper but a larger view is available online.
· Police Department food drive collects over a ton of food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. 2,400 pounds of canned goods were collected and will be distributed to Cape Coral families in need.
· Lee County is on Top 10 list for bike/pedestrian accidents in US. Motorists need to be more careful to help reduce the number of deaths in our area. Cape Coral is working on developing a bicycle and pedestrian friendly city.
