1. You can Homestead your property (and receive a tax benefit) if you make it your permanent residence by getting a Florida driver's license, Florida license plate, and register to vote in Florida.
2. Be careful where you park. There are self-cleaning palm trees whose heavy palm fronds fall off my themselves, such as Royal Palms. Coconuts also fall without notice!
3. Cape Coral incorporated in 1970 and is 50 years old this year. The Historical Museum is located at 544 Cultural Park Blvd. A book was written about the early days of Cape Coral.
4. Burrowing Owls are a protected bird and Cape Coral has more nests than anywhere else in Florida. There are approximately 2000 nests throughout the city.
5. Most homes have a stucco finish over concrete block and need to be repainted every 8 years or so.
6. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. This is also called the rainy season. Prepare by gathering non-perishable goods, medications, etc ahead of time.
7. Quiet hours are 10:00 pm until 7:00 am, with a few exceptions.
8. Cape Coral has 39 parks and counting. Many parks are tucked away in neighborhoods. Parks include a golf course, a bmx track, a beach, boat ramps, and a radio control airfield.
9. Not all waterfront homes require flood insurance.
10. Some areas of the city use wells and septic tanks but the whole city is changing to city water and sewer. Some homes have a utility assessment balance.
