Strausser BMX Sports Complex is located at 1410 SW 6^th Place, just off of Skyline Drive and almost in the center of Cape Coral. The park consists of 18 acres and is across the street from the BMX Boat Ramp. The park features a BMX motocross track, three lighted softball fields, picnic tables, restrooms, and a playground. A picnic shelter with grill may be reserved for special events.

The park is nestled within a partially developed neighborhood and near freshwater canals. The BMX track has been in use since 1977.

The softball fields are currently used by Oasis High School and a few area adult softball leagues have played there since 1987.

The BMX Boat Ramp provides access to Weatherly Lake to the south and Alhambra Lake and Lake Kennedy, among others, to the north. It is just south of the park and has ample parking for a daily fee.

The motocross track is quite busy with young and old, alike. Current information can be found on the Cape Coral BMX Facebook page.

Culver’s restaurant greets you as you enter Cape Coral. It is conveniently located at 1607 Cape Coral Parkway E, just over the bridge. You’ll need to turn onto Del Prado Blvd to enter the parking lot, which happens to be quite large. The drive-thru is always busy so you might as well park and enjoy your meal in the inviting interior or just outside the front door on the patio. 

Culver’s began 30 years ago with the now famous ButterBurger and custard. The extensive menu includes Beef Pot Roast Sandwich, Grilled Reuben Melt, Jumbo Shrimp, Chicken Tenders, North Atlantic Cod, and so much more, not to mention dessert. Each restaurant has its own Flavor of the Day custard. Wisconsin dairy products are used to create the tasty custard which is made throughout the day in small batches.

Things to do in Cape Coral-Wicked Dolphin

Cape Coral is lucky to have its own rum distillery. The Wicked Dolphin Rum Distillery is located at 131 SW 3^rd Place, just off of Pine Island Road. They have been producing artisan rum there since 2010. Their small operation is growing and they are looking to expand with another location as they are only allowed to produce a certain amount of rum each year. They offer free tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00. Reservations are recommended by calling 239-242-5244. The one hour tour includes viewing the distillery room, the keg room, and concludes in the tasting room. Rum punch and rum shots are offered during the tour. 

The Silver Rum and Spice Rum are available for purchase in the tasting room, in many stores, and online. A few specialty rums may also be available in the tasting room. This is a wonderful gift from Cape Coral to keep or to give. Things to do in Cape Coral-Wicked Dolphin

Things to do in Cape Coral-Movie Theatre

The movie theatre in Cape Coral is owned by Marquee Cinemas and is located at 2301 Del Prado Boulevard, just north of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. The theatre is located at the northeastern corner of Coralwood Shopping Center. 

The Coralwood location has 10 auditoriums of varying sizes and presents the latest productions. Ticket prices range from $7.00 to $13.00 and can be ordered online. The variety of ticket options includes adult, child (2-11), senior (62+), matinee (before 6 pm), early bird (1^st show before 2 pm Mon-Thur), and family night (Tuesday). A couple of the auditoriums are equipped with CC and DVS devices to aid the hearing and visually impaired guests. Things to do in Cape Coral-Movie Theatre.

Current shows, times, and prices are listed on the Marquee Cinemas website. Movie details, trailers, and ratings for each movie are listed. Gift cards can be purchased online and used for tickets or concessions. The theatre is also available for rental for business needs or birthday parties.

Don’t miss the latest movie to hit the big screens…visit Coralwood Shopping Center and the Marquee Cinemas theatre. You may want to check out the rest of the shopping center while you’re there…JC Penney, Bealls, Bealls Outlet, several small shops and eateries, and LA Fitness.

Things to do in Cape Coral-Movie Theatre

Things to do in Cape Coral-Sun Splash

Hot weather will be here before you know it. Water fun goes hand-in-hand with Florida sun. Cape Coral is fortunate to have the Sun Splash Family Waterpark available for residents and visitors, alike. The waterpark is one of the 39 parks run by the Cape Coral Parks & Recreation. 

A few of the attractions at the 14 acre park include:

Cape Fear—A 215 foot tunnel from a height of 30 feet accommodates single and double tube riders.

Fun-L-Tunnel—No tubes on this 30 foot drop in a 200 foot darkened tunnel.

Zoom Flume—This open air flume also drops 30 feet and travels 200 feet.

A lazy river, small slides, a tot spot, and a family pool are just a few of the calmer areas of the park. If you’re really looking for thrills don’t miss the Thunder Bump, Terror Tube, and X-celerator.

The park opens for the 2015 season on March 14 and will be open only on weekends until school is dismissed in early June, although the park will also be open on March 27 and Spring Break week of March 30-April 6. Beginning June 6 the park will be open 7 days a week until September 20. All days and hours of operation are listed on the website.

Discounted passes are available now through April 12 and equate to $20 in savings over the regular season passes. Regular season passes for residents are $74-$84 plus tax and passes for non-residents are $89-$99 plus tax. Pay for passes online. Daily passes are $12.95-$15.95 plus tax.

Spring 2015 Update for Cape Coral

The quarterly newsletter from city hall, “On The Move”, was recently mailed to all residents and businesses in Cape Coral. The front page highlights the vision planning that continues for Bimini Basin. The University of South Florida’s School of Architecture and Community Design will be presenting an initial design plan on March 17. It will be based on the most popular idea that was presented in January.

Other highlights include:

·         Watering schedule reminder. Cape Coral has a year-round watering schedule that must be adhered to in order to preserve our limited resources. More information is available on the Cape Coral website.

·    Five year paving plan. In May, Cape Coral will begin paving local roads in northwest Cape and southeast Cape. Once the Fire Service Assessment is approved, dollars will be freed up to continue resurfacing the major city roads. A map of the five year paving plan is in the paper but a larger view is available online.

·  Services provided from tax dollars. A lengthy list of services, plus comparisons to other cities, is shown on pages 6 and 7. Cape Coral provides an excellent value and is more affordable than many other cities.

·         Hazardous waste collection day is scheduled. Residents will be able to drop off household chemical waste on March 21 at the Public Works Annex on Everest Parkway from 8 am – 2 pm.

Things to do in Cape Coral-Owl Festival

Burrowing Owl nests are common sites around town but the owls are not always visible. It is fun to catch them sitting next to their nest as you walk or drive by. The protected owls are celebrated every year with a festival.

The 13^th annual Burrowing Owl Festival is slated for Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 10:00-4:00 at Rotary Park Environmental Center. A donation of $5 is requested for attendees 16 years old and older. $5 guided bus tours are scheduled for 10:30, 11:00, 1:30, and 2:00. Wildlife presentations will also be held throughout the day. The park is located at 5505 Rose Garden Road.

Things To Do in Cape Coral-Four Mile Cove

Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve greets you as you cross the Midpoint Bridge into Cape Coral. It is located at the east end of SE 23^rd Terrace, just off of Del Prado Boulevard. The park consists of 365 acres along the Caloosahatchee River and is the second largest preserved space in Cape Coral. 

The ecological preserve features a series of boardwalks that will guide you
through the wetlands and to a fishing pier and a cove. Since this is a preserve the trails are for walking only. Skating, biking, and dogs are not permitted.  

Picnic areas, welcome center, and restrooms are available. A veteran’s memorial is located in view of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Kayak rentals are seasonal and are located on the west side of the preserve. Park is open 8:00 am to dusk.

This is a great spot to get close to nature, relax, and reflect on the courage of the brave men and women who served in the armed forces.
