Things To Do in Cape Coral-Happy New Year!

Ring in the New Year at Cape Harbour. The ball will drop from the Marina South condo complex at midnight. This is the 9^th annual New Year’s celebration at Cape Harbour. Fathoms, The French Press, Rumrunners, and Pignoli will be open for business, although you should call ahead for reservations. Fathoms will also feature live music. The event is free and takes place from 8:00 pm-1:00 am at 5828 Cape Harbour Dr.

Other Cape Coral celebrations include:

South Cape Trolley Event-10 establishments will participate including Dixie Roadhouse, The Dek, Tiki Hut, and the Monkey Bar. Pay $5 for a wristband and take the trolley to the bars from 7:00 pm to midnight. Bars will be open until 2:00 am.

The Westin-Marker 92 and Nauti Mermaid-Enjoy a waterfront prix fixe dinner (early for $75, late for $85) and fireworks at midnight. Reservations required. 5951 Silver King Blvd.

Fletchers Grill & Spirits-Dinner Show features Father Al and the Jazz Congregation. Special menu includes Prime Rib, Lobster Ravioli, and Chicken Lombardi. Reservations are required for the $39.95 Dinner Show. Club will be open to the public from 9:00 pm-1:00 am. 627 Cape Coral Pkwy.

Things to do in Cape Coral-New Resident Club

The New Resident Club of Cape Coral welcomes all newcomers to the city, whether you are a snowbird, full-time resident, single, married, working, retired, etc. The social club has about 800 members and was founded in 1967. It is a wonderful way to make friends and get to know the area. Some of the regular monthly activities include the General Meeting, Sunset Celebration, New Member Social, Men’s Breakfast, Ladies Luncheon, Dinner Dance, and Cocktails on the Cape. One-time club activities are also planned along with group pot-lucks and other smaller group activities.

Anyone who has lived in Cape Coral less than three years is welcome to join the New Resident Club for a two year period. The fee is currently $45 per person. You can join at the General Meeting (held on the first Tuesday of each month from 9 am – 11 am at the Cape Coral Yacht Club) or by printing an application online and mailing it in with payment.

Holiday Festival of Lights in Cape Coral

The 22^nd annual Holiday Festival of Lights in Cape Coral is scheduled for Saturday, December 06, 2014 from 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm. This is the official start to the holiday season for Southwest Florida. On average, 20,000 people attend the festival each year, which is located along Cape Coral Parkway between SE 15^th Avenue and Candia Street. Events will include the tree lighting at 6:15 performed by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, a 25 ton Snow Drift Slide, live performances on multiple stages, a Tiny Tot’s Train Ride, and youth activities. More than 70 vendors will be in attendance so that patrons can do some holiday shopping. Beer, soda, and festival foods will be available.

The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral is hosting the event.

Holiday Festival of Lights in Cape Coral

Winter 2014 Update for Cape Coral

The quarterly newsletter from city hall, “On The Move”, was recently mailed to all residents and businesses in Cape Coral. The front page highlights the completion of State Road 78 (Pine Island Road) widening project from Chiquita Boulevard to Burnt Store Road. This project was 25 years in the making but broke ground just over a year ago. The two lane road was widened to four lanes, which will aid in emergency evacuation should the need occur.

Other highlights include:

·    Watering schedule reminder as the dry season approaches. Cape Coral has a year-round watering schedule that must be adhered to in order to preserve our limited resources. More information is available on the Cape Coral website.
·  Sidewalk Grant Program. Cape Coral has received grants to install sidewalks throughout the city and has not had to allocate any tax dollars for this project. A map of the roads to receive sidewalks and the time frame for installation is in the paper but a larger view is available online.
·  Police Department food drive collects over a ton of food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. 2,400 pounds of canned goods were collected and will be distributed to Cape Coral families in need.
·  Lee County is on Top 10 list for bike/pedestrian accidents in US. Motorists need to be more careful to help reduce the number of deaths in our area. Cape Coral is working on developing a bicycle and pedestrian friendly city.

Things to do in Cape Coral/Ft Myers-Sand Sculpting

You still have time to see the amazing sand sculptures at the 28^th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship at Ft Myers Beach. The display continues through Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 5:00 pm. It is located behind the Wyndham Garden Hotel (6890 Estero Blvd). You can buy a wristband for $5 (4 and under are free). Free parking and shuttle service is available at Lover’s Key (8700 Estero Blvd) but $5 and $10 parking spots are also available near the hotel.

Completed sculptures, as well as, works in progress are there to view. Competitions continue through the end of the event. Demonstrations, live music, vendors, food and drink are also available.

This is a great way to cap off the Thanksgiving weekend.

This area of Cape Coral is a boater’s delight. These homes offer only a 5-10 minute ride to the Caloosahatchee River. Most of the canals allow for direct sailboat access with no bridges to maneuver through. The southeastern part of Cape Coral was the first area developed so many of these homes will be older and some of the lots will be worth more than the home.

All of these listings will have canal or river views but the backyard exposure will vary. The biggest draw for this area is the proximity to the gulf and remember--the better the view and the shorter the ride through the canals, the higher the price!
